Proposed Tree Coverage, Preservation and Planting Ordinance

With increased development activities and recognition of the importance of trees in the urban environment, the City Council directed a study of the existing protections and requirements for tree preservation.  Through a Citizen Advisory Committee, recommendations have been made to change portions of the City’s Zoning Ordinance to promote tree retention and planting.  A draft text amendment to the Zoning Ordinance has been prepared following the Committee’s recommendations and Council’s direction.

A series of Public Information and Input meetings have been scheduled to receive comments on the draft amendments.  Citizens, developers, engineers and property owners are encouraged to review the draft ordinance and make comments.

The Public Information and Input meetings will be held on the following dates and locations:

RD Evans Community Center

3242 Lackland Road

Final Report of the Subdivision Ordinance Issued

A draft of the proposed Fort Worth Subdivision Ordinance Subdivision Regulations has been issued by the Plan Commission.  The revisions are comprehensive and will have some relative impact on all development in the City of Fort Worth.  This is the first time that the revised document that reflects input from the development community has been considered by the Commission.  There will be a public hearing concerning the document, and the final draft will most likely be forwarded to City Council within the next 4 to 6 weeks.  Representatives from the engineering and surveying consulting industry and residential developers have participated in the document review.   Questions concerning the proposal should be directed to John Garfield with the City of Fort WorthJohn.Garfield@fortworthgov.org.

Zoning Ordinance for Tree Planting and Preservation

The draft of the text amendment to the Zoning Ordinance regarding tree planting and preservation has been completed.  The attached text amendment takes the Citizen Advisory Committee’s recommendations and moves them into the regulations that would be included in the Zoning Ordinance.  It is possible to also read the previous recommendation sheet to assist in determining that the concepts recommended by the Committee are being carried out in the draft text amendment.
